Hamedan carpets are characterized by their geometric patterns and the presence of central figures as a common design to all of them. They maintain their colors and appearance over time.

Dark reds and blues predominate, contrasting with ivory. Green, soft blues, and browns are present in more recent carpets.

Base Structure

Warp and weft fundamentally made of cotton, it is common for them to have fringes on only one side.

The beginning of the weave on the non-fringed side is a Kilim weave, which generally also indicates the carpet's orientation from South to North, with the south being the non-fringed side.

The elongated shape is a characteristic of these carpets. The Turkish knot is the most frequently used, with cases of the Persian knot being very rare.
