Moud is a town located just southeast of Birjand in eastern Iran. It produces some of the best quality carpets in eastern Iran.

Typical Colors

Blue, brown, ivory, and dark red are combined in great harmony, achieving a very sober and highly stylish ensemble. Natural pigments extracted from vegetables, barks, insects, or minerals are used.

Texture and Quality

Moud carpets are among the highest quality everyday rugs with a highly resistant and solid structure. A wide variety of sizes, as well as runners, can be found.
They have a classic, highly sophisticated design with a very dense and tight pile. They are very firm and solid in consistency, having a high knot density which allows for very good definition, even in the smallest figures of their design.
One of their most notable characteristics is a large central medallion surrounded by small figures and intricately designed borders. The wool used is fine and soft, giving them a very pleasant feel.

Price

Due to their very sophisticated design and their particular beauty, there is a high demand for this type of carpet. For these reasons, due to the large number of hours involved in weaving each line, their high knot count, and consequently, the amount of wool that makes up each piece, their price is high. Large pieces have an added value due to the time it takes to finish one of these large pieces.

Base Structure

Cotton warp (in some cases it can be wool) with a very tight cotton weft. The Persian knot is used in the making of these carpets because of their very dense and solid structure. It is not advisable to fold these carpets as the base could be damaged. To transport or store them, it is best to roll them up.
