Qashqai

Located in the southern region of Iran, it is the second-largest tribe of Turkic origin by population. These tribes make up a group of more than 250,000 people. It is a nomadic pastoralist people that moves its flocks of sheep and goats according to pastures and seasons. Their migration route, which is located at an average altitude of 2,500 m above sea level, is considered one of the most difficult and longest of the nomadic peoples.

It is common to find motifs of birds or other animals in these rugs, and their borders generally have highly developed floral designs.

Typical Colors

Good quality pieces continue to be based on natural pigments for their colors. Red, blue, yellow, and gold are the most characteristic.

Texture and Quality

Made of soft, fine wool with a firm and consistent structure, different pile heights can be found. The quality of Kashgai rugs and runners is highly variable.

Because they are a very large population that travels long distances, the elements used to make them, such as pigments or wool, correspond to the places through which they travel.

They are highly appreciated by Westerners for their sophisticated and varied tribal design.
