Heriz rugs are among the most famous for collectors. One of their most notable characteristics is the large central medallion with eight vertices, present in almost all of these highly valued rugs.

Typical Colors
Dark red, brown, and beige are their most characteristic colors. Blue is used as a contrast color or for borders.

Texture and Quality

Because they are made with fine wool, their texture is soft and their pile is firm. Another highly appreciated characteristic is that they are generally very plush pieces. There is a variety of qualities, but it is important to note that the most recent ones have better quality and greater durability than the older ones.

As in all cases, their quality is directly related to the number of knots per surface area. The higher the number of knots, the better the design definition. Large pieces can be found, which in many cases increases their value considerably.

The warp is primarily cotton; the weft can be wool or cotton. The Turkish knot is generally used. The wool pile is generally of intermediate length, which gives it a very pleasant consistency to the touch.
